inArlington Cemetery pic sparks outrage, calls for woman’s firing – TODAY News.
I thought this was an interesting article from a couple of perspectives. When I am not a photographer, I work in the same field as the women involved in this story. I have always been careful to post only appropriate photos online due to my other job. The woman that was taking the photo in question is now being called on to be terminated from her job as well, according to the new Facebook page, “Fire Lindsey Stone” I had always thought about not posting photos of myself that may be construed as inappropriate but, with the calling of the photographer to be fired now as well, I am now thinking more about the photos I take creatively that may be taken offensively. I don’t think that I have ever posted anything offensive but, in today’s online social environment, it may be tougher to tell what will be offensive when the actual intent was just freedom of expression or creativity. With this particular story, it appears that it was more about stupidity than creativity or even freedom of speech. I think freedom of speech is a great thing and should be protected; however, there are still consequences (or rather responsibilities) to expressing this freedom, especially when working in helping professions so closely associated with the participation in an obviously controversial photo.

inCanon is releasing a new full-frame DSLR in December more than likely to compete with the new Nikon coming out this month. With a possible price point of around $2100, the new Canon 6D costs as much as the Mark II but, about $1300 less than the new Mark III. But the built in wif-fi and gps are some pretty cool features integrated into the new 6D. May have to make a new purchase in December and have my 7D as a secondary camera.

inPolitics aside, this Flickr page has so many incredible and candid photos of current presidential history. Peter Souza is the head photographer and he leads a small team of photographers allowed almost unlimited access in capturing the day-to-day activities of the President, the First Lady and staffers.
Having a full time photography staff in The White House is a relatively new concept, with the first official White House photographer capturing President Lyndon B. Johnson’s time in office. In fact, the only space available for the head photographer’s office was in the basement in what had previously been the presidential barber shop.
The current photo staff serving under President Obama has combined captures of over 20,000 images each month. These photos can never be deleted as they become part of the National Archive the moment they are captured.
If I had to pick a dream job, I think this would definitely be it! It wouldn’t matter who was serving as President or what party they happened to belong to. Just having opportunity to do something like this would be one incredible experience!
